These low-growing varieties flower as early as February through the end of March. Orchid Iris, or Iris Histroides, are also early bloomers which have larger flowers and graceful, very orchid-like markings.
How about Re-blooming Iris? Fabulous Iris that bloom and bloom again! Re-Blooming Iris first bloom in spring and have an encore show August to October. When planting Iris select a location that receives full sun and has well drained soil. To plant, dig a shallow trench about 12" across and 2" deep. Make a ridge of soil down the midle of the trench; place the rhizome on the ridge spreading the roots to both sides. Cover with soil and press firm. Rhizomes should be half in and half out of the soil. Space them 12-24" apart.
